As the cob(雄天鹅) flew towards Billings city, all sorts of troublesome thoughts filled in his head. He had never gone looking for a trumpet(小号) before. He had no money. He feared he might arrive after the shops had closed. He realized that in the whole continent he was undoubtedly the only cob on his way to a city to get a trumpet.
“This is a great adventure,” he said to himself. “Yet it is a noble searching. I will do anything to help my son Louis, even if I run into real trouble.”
Towards the end of the afternoon, the cob finally saw the churches, factories, shops and homes of Billings city. He circled, looking for a music store. Suddenly he found one. It had a very big, wide window, solid结实的) glass. The cob flew lower for a better look. A guitar, a piano, violins and then he saw what he wanted—a trumpet hanging by a shelf.
“Now it’s my time to act!” he said to himself. “Now it’s my moment for risking everything on one brave move, however shocking it may be to my emotions, however offensive(冒犯的) it may be to the laws that govern the lives of men. Here I go! May good luck go with me!”
