英语试题 05-18
Dav Pilkey, who was born on March 4th, 1966, the inventor of a children’s novel series Captain Underpants, has achieved some great success in his life.
Although he had strict parents, who always supported him, things did not turn out well for him as a young student. He was disliked in school by his teachers because he had trouble focusing in class. And he also didn’t really fit in with other kids. So what he did was use his strengths, imagination and creativity to think of a better world! What it resulted in was characters like Captain Underpants, who he started dreaming up in his second year at primary school.
Pilkey was often punished for his behavior in class and thus he usually sat at a desk in the school hallway. He took the bad things that were happening to him and turned them into amazing drawings and stories. But his teachers were not pleased or impressed. They didn’t like his stories or drawings.
Until one day in college, one of his teachers took note of his talents and suggested that he write children’s books. So he started writing and created a book. But then no one wanted to publish it. He got declined by 20 publishers before one agreed to do it. And from there, he made history! He has now sold over 80 million books like Dog Man and Captain Underpants, and recently helped make a movie!
Pilkey never stops. He has many stories left in him and also a desire to help kids read more. He hopes that kids can find their talents and become the best themselves through reading his books.
